Luckily, the team at Mossy Toyota is here to help you replace your Toyota key fob battery or help you determine if you need a Toyota key fob replacement altogether. Read below for instructions on how to replace your Toyota key fob battery, or contact us if you have a question about your Toyota key fob!

How To Complete A Toyota Key Fob Battery Replacement

If your Toyota key fob is acting sluggish or has suddenly stopped working, you probably just need to replace the battery. Luckily, this is an easy process, and all you need to do is open the key fob case, swap out the old battery for a new one, and close it back up again. Follow the instruction below to see how to replace your Toyota key fob battery.

  1. Open your Toyota key fob with your key (on newer models only), a paperclip, or a flat blade screwdriver by turning it in the designated slot or notch.
  2. Your Toyota key fob case will pop open. Lift the circuit board to expose the battery.
  3. Make a mental note of how the battery is laying in your keyfob – or take a photo with your phone – and take the old battery out. You can find a new Toyota battery at most La Jolla stores. Toyota key fobs use a CR2032 battery, which are generally only a few dollars.
  4. With your new battery in hand, place it in your key fob in the same position as the old one. Then put the circuit board back in place and snap your Toyota key fob shut.
  5. Take the time to test your key fob before leaving on your Chula Vista commute. If it doesn’t work, open the case again to adjust the battery and ensure the connections are clean and making contact with the battery, then close the key fob and try again. If your key fob still doesn’t work, you may need a Toyota key fob replacement.

Getting A Toyota Key Replacement

If you broke your Toyota key fob or part of your Toyota key fob, you have different replacement options depending on what was damaged. If you’ve only damaged the key – and not the casing – of the key fob, then you can easily have a new Toyota key cut at with the %%di_name %% service team. All you need to do is bring your vehicle and your broken key into our service center near Carlsbad and one of our technicians can cut you a new one. If you’ve damaged the casing of your keyfob, we may be able to repair it. However, if you’ve completely broken your Toyota keyfob you will need a full key fob replacement.

What If I Have A Broken Toyota Key Fob?

If you’re broken your Toyota key fob proper, then you’ll need to get a Toyota key fob replacement. You can easily order a replacement key fob from our parts department, but getting a full replacement can be expensive. Depending on your keyfob it may cost anywhere from $200 – $350. A new key fob costs more because physical keys must be cut and the electronics must be programmed to your specific vehicle.
